What resolution is best for your photo albums?

The resolution of a scanned image is measured in dots per inch (dpi), which determines the quality and clarity of the digital copy. A higher dpi results in a more detailed and sharper image, making it ideal for enlarging or printing scanned photos.

Choosing between 300 dpi and 600 dpi largely depends on how the digitised images will be used. If you plan to view the photos on a computer or share them on social media, 300 dpi is more than enough. However, if you want to create large prints, 600 DPI is recommended.

We are one of the best album scanning services in the UK, known for our high-quality scanning equipment and expertise in handling all sorts of albums and photographs. We offer both 300 dpi and 600 dpi scanning options, so customers can decide upon the resolution that best suits their needs.

With our Album scanning service, you can be assured that your treasured photos will be scanned with the utmost care and attention, preserving the memories for years to come.

300 dpi Summary

Are you planning to transfer and look at your digitised photo albums on a computer or share them with your family on social media, a TV or a mobile device?  A resolution of 300 DPI should be more than enough to meet your requirements.

600 DPI in Summary

If you plan to print your digitised photos larger than the original albums or to archive your albums, then opting for a resolution of 600 DPI is recommended.

Preparing Your Photo Albums For Sending

Just a few tips that will help us to get the best digital scans of your photograph:

What we appreciate!
  • Albums or scrapbooks with clear titles or numbering for naming digitised folders
  • All photos secured in place and not loose
  • Photos or pages that you DON'T want scanning, clearly identified
What we can’t scan
  • Slip in plastic pocket albums. We recommend removing these before sending & using our loose photo scanning service
  • Unfortunately we cannot accept Copyright material unless permission obtained from the owner
  • Loose photos falling out of pages.  If we need to remount photos, this will incur a 10p additional charge per photo

Why Scan Your Photo Albums to Digital?

Scanning and digitising your photo albums is one of the best ways to safeguard your precious memories for the future. Over time, physical photographs naturally deteriorate, becoming faded, brittle, or damaged by humidity, sunlight, or even handling. Old photos, often stored in albums or shoeboxes, are vulnerable to disasters such as floods or fires. Imagine the loss of all those memories, gone forever! By scanning your photos, you create digital backups that preserve the images and, if you want them, any captions or notes showing dates and who's who. Digitise your photo albums and you've saved the memories for many generations to come AND the freedom to share and view the memories whenever you wish.

By taking the time to have your photo albums scanned now, you’re ensuring that your treasured moments won’t be lost to time or unforeseen accidents. It’s a small investment today that can provide peace of mind and preserve your memories long into the future.

FAQ's About Our Photo Album Scanning Service

What Format do you save files to?

We save all our scans as jpg files. Please contact us if you want any other format, such as tiff.

How long will it take to scan my Photo Albums?

This depends upon the number of albums and whether you want full-page scans or photos removed and scanned or scanned in situ. We always give an estimation for completion.

Do you return my albums to me?

Yes, we do. Of course, if you would prefer us to securely dispose of your photos and albums, we can. There would be a charge for them to be sent off for shredding. Just let us know if you want this to be done.

Not sure how many Photos album page sides? Do you have to count them all accurately?

No, don't worry. We only need an estimate of numbers, and that is mainly for you to get an approximate cost. We will give you a total count once scanning is completed. If it looks as though your guesstimate is way off, don't worry; we will always let you know well before completion.
